ZenSpot Duck Asana

Yoga has a long tradition of naming postures characteristic of animals. Among the many postures for animals are camel, cobra, cat, cow, crow, dog, fish, rabbit and tortoise to name a few. To date, there has not been a posture reflective of a duck (kaadamba in Sanskrit), until now. So here is your chance. ZenSpot would like to encourage its practitioners to think of the first duck asana. And what better place to pursue the creation of a duck posture than in Eugene, Oregon, home of the Oregon Ducks.

In considering the prospective posture, take the opportunity to watch some ducks, reflect on their activity and how that might be depicted in an asana. Consider what the posture contributes to yoga in terms of strength, stretching, breathing, concentration and/or meditation. Capture your ideas however you would like and send them to ZenSpot at info@zenspotmbs.com and post on the ZenSpot Blog under the heading, “ZenSpot Duck Asana,” http://www.zenspotmbs.com/blog. The most characteristic duck asana and its submitter(s) will be depicted in an upcoming newsletter, on the website, in a posture clinic and in the ZenSpot Hot Yoga asana practice.

Submissions are encouraged by May 1, 2010.
